Christmas seems like such a long time ago, so by now you’re all probably looking forward to your next holiday. Easter weekend is the next real luxury, so make sure you make the most of your time off, you deserve it! If you’re looking to relax in the heart of our beautiful county, then we’ve put together a few places that you should visit whilst you’re here.
Symonds Yat is a village in the Forest of Dean and a popular tourist destination, straddling the River Wye and on the borders of the English counties of Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. Visit Symonds Yat’s Amusement park, the park offers hours of enjoyment, fun and excitement on the fairground rides and arcades. One for the energetic youngsters!
Just outside of Herefordshire, you could visit the Brecon Beacons, a mountain range in South Wales. Grab your boots! There are routes and trails for all abilities, with superb scenery along the way. There are masses of paths and trails for walkers, runners, cyclists, mountain bikers, horse riders and wildlife-watchers. There’s a brilliant range of organised activities on offer too, from gentle recreational pursuits like photography to full-on adrenaline sports such as paragliding, rafting and abseiling.
The Weir Garden
Picnic among wildflowers or try bird watching from the viewing bridge, there's plenty to keep you busy during your day out. Enjoy a leisurely stroll among rows of seasonal vegetables, fruits and salads, and pop into the glass house and potting shed. Grab a cuppa and a slice of cake, and pick up some seasonal plants and homegrown fruit and vegetables to take home with you.
Croft Castle and Parkland
Croft Castle sits deep in the heart of the Herefordshire countryside surrounded by 1500 acres of historic woodland, farm and parkland. Step outside and explore the working walled garden complete with historic orchards, vineyard and take a peak inside the 1908 glasshouse restoration project. Look out for the Georgian stable block and uncover some of the stories of how horses were cared for during the war years.
Hay-on-Wye is a small market town and community in the traditional county and district of Brecknockshire in Wales. Often described as "the town of books", it is the National Book Town of Wales. Check out the weekly Thursday market and grab some delicious Herefordshire produce.
